Makhana Bhel

Makhanas, also known as fox nuts and are made from lotus seeds. These seeds are dried and puffed to make makhanas. They can be consumed in various forms like bhel, kheer or tossed with some seasoning.

The low sodium, good potassium and magnesium content of makhanas help improve heart health. Makhanas contain a decent amount of calcium required for good bone health. Calorically they are less dense and contain a good amount of protein and fibre. Makhanas can be a perfect handy food for snack time. Makhana Bhel is a delicious low calorie, a fat-free snack made with spicy and tangy flavours of your own choice.

 

Ingredients:

Roasted Makhana – 1 Cup

Chopped Onion – 1 Small

Chopped Tomato – 1 Small

Boiled Corn – ¼ Cup

Pomegranate – ¼ Cup

Dates Chutney – 1 Tsp

Mint Chutney – 1 Tsp

Salt, Lemon & Chaat Masala as per taste

 

Method:

  1. In a bowl add roasted makhanas, chopped onion, tomato, boiled corn and pomegranate and mix well.
  2. Add dates chutney, mint chutney, chaat masala and salt as required for the perfect sweet and tangy taste.
  3. Squeeze some lemon and give mixture a good toss.
  4. Garnish with coriander and serve.
